Le samaumeira est un arbre immense, tellement grand qu'il abrite plein d'autres essences d'arbres. Mature, ses branches sont de la dimension d'un grand arbre. Il est difficile de photographier un samaumeira pour en démontrer sa dimension. Sa base fait à peu prêt 20 x 20 pied, il peut atteindre 125 à 150 pieds de hauteur. La première fois, nous devons avoir passé une grosse demie-heure à contempler son immensité. On dit que c'est l'arbre dans le film Avatar.

Au centre-ville de belém, il y a deux Samaumeira au parc Basilica Santuario de Nazaré. Facing this basilica is a park with a samaumeira tree. At dusk, the tree fills up with what seems like all of the parakeets in the city - and they roost! The sound is amazing! (but not so well recorded with this camera - you might get an idea of the white noise...)
